Project Dashboard Accessories and Upgrades Mount Adapter Installation Instructions for TAZ 5/6 Workflow

1 Getting Started

Follow the instructions below to install the Universal Mount Adapter onto your LulzBot TAZ 6 and TAZ 5 to take advantage of the latest generation of LulzBot Tool Heads:

SL Tool Head | Small Layer | 0.25 mm
SE Tool Head | Single Extruder | 0.5 mm
HS Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 0.8 mm
HS+ Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 1.2 mm

2 Included Materials

  • (1) Adapter plate with wiring harness
  • (2) M3 x 10 Bolt, SHCS Black-oxide
  • (1) M3 x 10 Flat Head Screw
  • (2) 18-8 Black-Oxide Steel Flat Washer, M3 Screw Size

3 Additional Items Required

You will also need

  • 2mm metric hex key
  • 2.5mm metric hex key
  • One of the following:
    SL Tool Head | Small Layer | 0.25mm
    SE Tool Head | Single Extruder | 0.5mm
    HS Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 0.8mm
    HS+ Tool Head | Hardened Steel | 1.2mm

4 Power off your 3D printer

Power off and unplug the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Power off your LulzBot

5 Disconnect Tool Head

Holding both connector housings, gently wiggle the connector free. Do not pull on the wires, only the connector housing.

6 Remove Tool Head

Using the 2.5 mm hex key, unscrew the M3 socket head screw securing the tool head to the X-axis carriage. Ensure that you are holding the tool head to prevent it from falling onto the bed after the screw has been removed.

Remove the tool head from the printer by lifting the tool head away from the printer.

7 Mount the Tool Head to Adapter

7A Screw in the M3 flat head screw from the back into the tool head.

7B Screw in the two M3 socket head screws into the top of the mount.

7C Connect the adapter and tool head connectors, making sure to fully seat the connectors until they lock.

Install screw through the back of adapter
Install top screws on front of adapter
Plug adapter into wiring harness

8 Mount Tool Head + Adapter to Printer

Mount adapter with tool head attached to TAZ 6 using the M3 socket head screw.

Support tool head while tightening screws

9 Plug in Tool Head

Connect the two 16-pin connectors, making sure to match them based on the pins in the connector.

Plug in cable from adapter to printer

10 Additional installation instructions specific to tool head
